Scripture: 2 Chronicles 20:3–4; Psalm 46:1
3 Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he resolved to seek the Lord. Then he proclaimed a fast for all Judah, 4 who gathered to seek the Lord. They even came from all the cities of Judah to seek him. (CSB)
Jehoshaphat did not panic, strategize, or rally his weapons first. Scripture says he “set himself to seek the Lord.” His very first response was to pray. When fear pressed in, he pressed into God.
We often do the opposite. We try everything else first. We worry. We call others. We try to fix the situation on our own. Prayer becomes the last response instead of the first resort.
Jehoshaphat called a fast. Fasting says, “God, I need You more than I need anything else.” It narrows our focus. It pushes away distraction. It reminds our bodies and our hearts that God is our source.
Maybe you need to pause today. Maybe you need to intentionally slow down, breathe deeply, and deliberately turn your attention to God — before you send that message, before you respond in frustration, before you try to fix the situation.
Reflection Question: What situation in your life have you been trying to handle on your own instead of seeking the Lord first?
Prayer: Father, teach me to seek You before anything else. Draw my heart into prayer. Help me turn to You first, not last. Amen.
