Parables from the New Testament

"Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and he did not tell them anything without a parable," - Matthew 10:34 (CSB)

PARABLE — a short, simple story designed to communicate a spiritual truth, religious principle, or moral lesson; a figure of speech in which truth is illustrated by a comparison or example drawn from everyday experiences.

Parables are excellent tools that Jesus used during much of His teaching in order to teach His followers. My youth pastor taught me that a parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Matthew 10: 34-35 tells us "Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and he did not tell them anything without a parable, 35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:

I will open my mouth in parables;

I will declare things kept secret

from the foundation of the world."

Reflect:

Review this list of parables and pick a couple them that interest you. Read it and send me a note which one you select. I might have to create a sermon series using your responses one day.

I'm thinking about making the Parables of Jesus my 2026 Bible study.
