Scripture: “Arise therefore, and build…” — 1 Chronicles 22:19
An elderly carpenter, eager to retire, agreed to build one final house at his employer’s request. But his heart wasn’t in it—he used poor materials and cut corners. When he finished, his employer handed him the keys. “This is your house,” he said. The carpenter was shocked! Had he known he was building his own home, he would have built it with better care.
David understood the importance of building with purpose. Though he couldn’t construct the temple himself, he made careful preparations, calling the best leaders to join in the work using only the best material (1 Chronicles 22:17–19). He knew the house of the Lord must be “exceeding magnifical” (v. 5). Likewise, we are called to build—not just structures, but lives that honor God.
Reflection: What kind of spiritual house are you building? One day our work will be tested (1 Corinthians 3:10–14). Are you giving God your best, or only what is convenient? Build faithfully—for what you build in this life echoes into eternity.
Prayer: Lord, help me build with excellence, purpose, and devotion. Strengthen my hands for Your work, and let my life reflect Your glory in everything I do.
