The Blessing of Being a Witness

Scripture: “Then Samuel said to the servant, ‘Go on ahead of us.’ So he went on ahead. But as for you, stand still for a while, that I may make known to you the word of God.” — 1 Samuel 9:27 (CSB)

In this passage, the servant is the one who suggests seeking out the man of God. He's the reason Saul and Samuel even meet. Yet when the pivotal moment comes, the servant is asked to step aside.

At first glance, it might seem like he was left out. But look a little closer. The servant got to witness something profound: the beginning of Saul’s calling, the moment when God’s plan for Israel’s leadership was set into motion.

Sometimes, God uses us to spark something that isn’t meant for us to complete. And in that, there is a unique blessing. The servant may not have received the direct revelation, but he was a witness to God’s unfolding redemptive plan. He had the privilege of being part of a story bigger than himself.

Reflection: Think about times when you played a part in something meaningful without being the one in the spotlight. There is joy in knowing that you helped set God’s plan in motion, even if you weren’t the final recipient.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for allowing me to witness and participate in Your plans. Help me to find fulfillment in being a faithful witness, even when the message or the mission is passed on to someone else. Amen.
