Scripture: “But the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.” — Genesis 40:23
Joseph’s circumstances in Genesis 40–42 were far from ideal. Though he faithfully served God in prison and accurately interpreted the cupbearer’s dream, he was forgotten. From a human perspective, Joseph could have felt abandoned, overlooked, or defeated. Yet even in being forgotten by man, he was never forgotten by God. At the appointed time, God stirred the cupbearer’s memory (Genesis 41:9), and Joseph was lifted from the prison to the palace. God used Joseph’s suffering as preparation for greater service and greater glory.
Reflection: Maybe someone forgot your birthday or anniversary. Perhaps you were overlooked for a promotion, not asked to help with a project, or someone failed to do what they promised they would do for you. Those moments can sting deeply. But even when people forget, overlook, or disappoint you, God has not forgotten you. He sees, He knows, and He is still at work.
Prayer: Lord, when I feel forgotten or overlooked, help me rest in the truth that You never lose sight of me. I trust You with my circumstances and Your perfect timing. Amen.
