Scripture: “'This is from the Lord; we have no choice in the matter..’” — Genesis 24:50 (CSB)
In Genesis 24, Abraham’s servant is given a sacred task—to find the wife God had chosen for Isaac. His journey leads him straight to Rebekah, and every detail unfolds exactly as he prayed. When the servant explains the purpose of his mission and ask for their blessing, Rebekah’s family responds with the wisest words anyone can say when God’s will becomes clear: “The Lord has brought this about; we have no choice in the matter.”
Their response reveals a truth we often forget. We are free to choose, but that freedom is never meant to compete with God’s direction. Too often we give ourselves room to delay what the Lord has clearly asked us to do.
There is also a warning in this same chapter. The next morning, Rebekah’s family asks for ten more days before she leaves—ten days that would have created delayed obedience. And delayed obedience is simply disobedience with a polite face.
When our family moved from Florida to Arkansas, we stepped out by faith. We didn’t have all the answers—only the assurance that God was calling us there. And like Rebekah’s family, we learned the joy of saying, “Yes, the Lord has brought this about. What choice do we have?”
Reflection: Where might you be delaying obedience in your life? Trust that God’s plan is always better than your hesitation.
Prayer: Lord, help me respond quickly and joyfully when You reveal Your will. Give me faith to say “yes” without delay, knowing that Your plans are good and Your guidance is perfect.
