Scripture: “But Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt.” — Genesis 19:26 (CSB)
When God rescued Lot’s family from Sodom, He gave them one clear command—don’t look back. But Lot’s wife, unable to release what was behind her, turned to look—and in that moment, her life ended. Her backward glance revealed a heart still tied to the past.
While coaching my sons’ 8U baseball team, we constantly practiced one of the basic fundamentals of running the bases: don’t run while looking backward. Players who look back lose speed, lose direction, or sometimes trip altogether. To run well, they must keep their eyes forward—especially on their coach.
The Christian life works the same way. God calls us to keep moving forward in obedience, keeping our eyes on Him. But it’s easy to lose momentum when we turn our attention backward—toward past sins, past pleasures, or past hurts. When our gaze shifts behind us, our spiritual progress slows, and sometimes our motivation dies altogether.
Reflection: Are you looking backward at something God has already brought you out of? Ask the Lord to help you release the past so you can run faithfully toward what He has ahead for you.
Prayer: Lord, help me fix my eyes forward. Give me strength to leave behind anything that distracts my heart from You. Keep me running with faith toward the future You have prepared.
