Day 26: When God Enters the Room

Click here for today's reading: Day 26: 1 Sam 5–8 | Prov 12:15–28 | Acts 2

Scripture: “When the people of Ashdod got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen facedown on the ground before the ark of the LORD.” — 1 Samuel 5:3 (CSB)

When the ark of God was placed in the temple of Dagon, the Philistines assumed the two gods could peacefully coexist. But the next morning revealed a powerful truth: the presence of the true God exposes every false god. Without a word spoken or a hand lifted, Dagon fell facedown before the Lord.

God does not share His glory. When He truly enters a life, competing loyalties are confronted. Idols—anything we depend on as our source instead of God—cannot stand in His presence. We may try to set them back up, just as the Philistines did, but God’s unseen hand will continue its work until He alone is exalted.

Reflection: Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your life that competes with Him for first place.

Prayer: Lord, I want You to reign alone in my life. Expose and remove anything I trust more than You. I surrender every rival to Your glory. Amen.
